Rossnowlagh Parade - 2024 Imperial Council
Date
Saturday 6 July 2024
Location
Rossnowlagh in Donegal, Southern Ireland
On Saturday, July 6th 2024, Beverley Buist, Grand Master of the Orange Order NZ, participated in a parade at Rossnowlagh in Donegal, Southern Ireland as part of the Imperial Council. Despite the frigid temperatures, some attendees ventured from the field to the beach.
As the sole New Zealand representative, Beverley was invited to join the Australian contingent, marching alongside them with their flags carried side by side. While women typically marched behind the men, at the last minute, she was escorted to the second row by Imperial Grand Secretary M.W. Bro. Mervyn Bishop, walking between the Grand Masters of Canada and Australia. It was reported that this was the first time a female had marched at the front of the parade.
Following the parade, a church service was held, where Beverley was the only female among the dignitaries. The service was conducted by Rev. Canon Brian Russell, and an inspiring sermon was delivered by Rev. Sean Mcclafferty. After the service, Beverley represented the Grand Orange Lodge of New Zealand in a speech.
Due to her position at the front of the parade, Beverley was separated from the New Zealand flag, which was carried by War. Bro. Alan Nicholl of Hillstown LOL 176. As Nicholl was unable to stay for the entire service, the flag was carried back by Wor. Bro. James Bond, an Irish member residing in Australia.
