The Grand Lodge is proud to announce the installation of its new Grand Master Wor Sis Sheryll Rodgers, a dedicated and lifelong member of the Orange Institution, whose commitment spans more than six decades.
A third-generation member, she comes from a proud Orange heritage — with both paternal grandparents and parents actively involved in the Institution. Her father served as Past District Master of Dunedin, and this strong family legacy inspired her own early involvement.
She joined the Junior Girls in Dunedin at the age of eight, alongside her sister, while her twin brother was already a member of the Junior Boys. When the Junior Girls and Boys amalgamated to become No. 5A Star of Welcome, she progressed through all officer positions and later served as Deputy Superintendent.
At 17, she joined her mother and grandmother in Lodge No. 30/31, where she served twice as Mistress before relocating to Christchurch in 1986. She is currently the District Mistress of No. 5 South Island, overseeing the region from Christchurch to Invercargill, and has served for many years as Mistress of No. 3 Victoria & Albert. She also held the role of Junior Superintendent in Christchurch.
Over the years, she has taken on several key roles within the Grand Lodge, culminating in her installation as Grand Master during the King's Birthday weekend. During the Grand Lodge Sessions held in Christchurch, she was also honoured with her 60-year service certificate, a remarkable milestone reflecting her unwavering dedication.
Her appointment as Grand Master holds special significance, as she reflects on a time when such a role was not even open to women within the Institution. Her journey stands as a testament to the evolution and progress of the Order.
She has been married to her husband, Richard, for 49 years. Together, they have raised four children, including their youngest, who lives with severe disabilities. They are proud grandparents to eight grandchildren and recently welcomed their third great-grandchild, little Felix, in July.
